Conventions used in Front Covers

From my research on analysing magazine front covers I have made a clear list of the common conventions and devices used in making it successful.
  • Large clear masthead
  • A generally simple background for the cover image - not too busy
  • Plus signs and words saying 'plus'
  • Lots of coverlines
  • Naming lots of artists, either a variety or from similar genres depending on the magazine
  • barcode
  • date and price of the issue
  • Red used as a key colour
  • Words such as 'exclusive'
Other features are used depending on the target audience of the magazine.
