Secondary Artists - The Hallowed - Photography Planning

For the photos of The Hallowed, I wanted to include some gig style photography, as live shows and concerts are a big interest of my magazines target market.

Time: 6:00p.m. 21st November

Place: O2 Academy Oxford

 - I plan to take the photos during the support act (Frank Iero and The Cellarbrations) of a Mallory Knox concert at the O2 Academy Oxford. The venue is quite small, meaning it will be easier to get close to the stage and get good photographs of band playing. 

Photography - Main Artist

 For the photography of my main artist I mainly followed my planning, however due to technical difficulties I had to start later than planned. This didn't seem to be a problem though as the lighting, along with the cloudy weather provided good lighting to take photographs in.

Below is the majority of the photos I took unedited.

Of all the photos I picked out these 3 below to edit for my magazine. Although I had originally intended on having a woodland background I wanted to try editing a black background. This was easier to do with the first two, as they already appeared partly on a black background. After editing the background and the skin tone slightly, I decided that the black background looked better and more professional. If I had time to do another photo shoot, I would have liked to have done more photos with a plain black background.

Photography Planning - Main Artist

Raven 

Model - Iona Hodson 

- Iona already has a very alternative style that fit's the look of Raven well. She also has very clear, striking eyes and a palish skin which fits with the Gothic image.

Hair- Although my model has a short blond pixie cut, I will use use a wig to give her longer hair, as I feel this suits the gothic image and the clothes I'm planning for her to wear, better. I plan to have a Black mid-length hair style with a block fringe. The length will also be curled or back combed to add volume.





Make-up - I'm planning to do quite dark make-up for my model. For the eyes I will use a dark purple eye shadow with black eye shadow around the edge. I will also give her winged eyeliner and mascara to make her eyes look bigger, with longer eyelashes. For her eyebrows I will also make them black to match her hair colour. For the lips I'm planning to use a gradient lipstick which is black at the edges then fades into red at the middle. The red lip in the middle would add a small amount of colour, but still in a gothic style.


Wardrobe - The artist Raven has a very striking, gothic image, so I want to reflect this in the clothes she wears. I plan for the model to wear a decorative black, underbust corset with a large black petticoat. On top Iona will wear a plain black long sleeved shirt, to balance out the busyness of the skirt and corset. This style gives a very gothic classy, yet still edgy look which represents the style of music well. 

Time and location - For the backdrop I want to use a woodland scenery. At the local park there is also a good area that has barbed wire fences that could help make a creepy setting. This would suit the genre of music well as it is often seen as dark and creepy. As it is getting dark early this time of year, I'm planning on doing my photography around 11 a.m on Saturday 15th. This is so that there will be enough light to take good quality photos in my chosen location.

Model : Leora Attwool

Wardrobe: For clothing I want something quirky, and a little rough around the edges. To achieve this I'm planning on having Leora wear knee high socks with denim shorts. On top she will wear a three quarter sleeved, cropped top with a tartan pattern on. She will also wear a simple black velvet choker, and black converse with red and black checked laces. 

Time and Location: My front porch at 4:30 p.m.

- I'm planning to use the front porch in my house as it is currently being decorated. This means it is a bit rough around the edges, and the floor is bare, giving it an edgy look that fits the genre of music the artist represents. I also want to make use of the narrow corridor by having my model do poses of pushing against the walls, or leaning between them. Since the porch is inside and doesn't have much natural light in the area I will have to use my own lighting. 

Hair and Make-up - For hair and make-up I want my model to have quite dark eye make-up with winged eyeliner. I also want her to have a dark purple lip colour, as I think this would suit the artist better than a solid black colour. For her hair I plan to do a messy side ponytail. The models hair is very long which means that even with a very high ponytail, her hair will still look very long.

‘The comeback of Elysium – raven reveals all: front

Sub heading?: after the bands long break Elysium return with promises of a new album.

-        After a huge period of hearing nothing but Elysium, the world was shocked by the bands sudden disappearance from the limelight. After two years of hearing nothing but rumours, (and only rumours) the bands front woman Raven has stepped forward with the announcement of their return, and their promises of a new album that come with it.

-         

-        So Raven, How come we haven’t see you for the past two years?!

-        “Starting in at the deep end are we? [laughs] Well, basically, at the end of our Red Ribbon tour I was completely spent, and the guys were too so we just, we all agreed that it was best that we took a break I mean, we had been touring and performing non-stop for at least 3 years and although I really really love performing, a girl’s gotta have a break! “

-         

-        So then what have you been doing on this break?

-        “Straight after the tour I wanted to be alone really. I had been so busy everyday, and on the road there is very little chance to have some time to yourself, so, as sad as it sounds, I went and spent some time at home with [my cat] Pepper, just rejuvenating really. “

-         

-        That’s a much different story to the rumours that have been circulating about you! Have you heard any of these?

-        “Oh like the ones about me ‘sacrificing goats to Satan’!? Yes, I have heard a few of these. I think the best ones are the ones about me ‘raising a cult army to overthrow the government’, or there was other one about me ‘leaving Elysium to become a stripper’…. I’m not by the way!”

-         

-        Don’ t worry, we know better than to believe any of that crap. So what prompted you to start writing again?

-        “Uhmm haha you know it’s funny, performing too much was the thing that made us take the break, but it’s also one of the main things that made me want to get back together and do some writing with the guys. Of course I hadn’t stopped playing music over the two years, but playing piano and violin on your own is a completely different feeling to performing in a band, and I really missed that. I also really wanted to try out some new ideas that I just couldn’t keep away from.”

-         

-        Any hints towards what the new album will be like?

-        “Mmm I don’t want to give too much away, but we’ve definitely gone back to our roots, and incorporated it with some fresh ideas. When we were in the studio to start writing, I listened over our very first album and… although it wasn’t perfect, it really made me remember why I started writing music in the first place.”

-         

-        Does that mean the accordion will be making a comeback then?

-        “[laughs] No! No no definitely not. That accordion should never have been heard in the first place, wow. No I mean that, when we fist started… music was a place where I could be whoever I wanted. Red Ribbon was more about me personally, but the new album is definitely going to be more about creating stories and characters with music, which is what I love.”

-         

-        So much for not wanting to give too much away, hey?

-        “I know! I really need to learn when to shut my mouth [laughs]”

-        Before, in your previous shows you have always been very theatrical, are you going to keep this style of performance?

-        “Oh of course!! It wouldn’t be Elysium if we didn’t do all the costumes and make-up and… fire… How boring would it be, if you came to one our shows, and got a normal performance? It’ll be even better now with the new album, it’s really inspired me in an art form”

-         

-        So does this mean you’re you planning any shows or tours?

-        “Definitely, we’ve got some shows in the UK already lined up, but we’re also planning on going to Europe and the US too. I’ve missed performing too much, I’m like, itching to get on stage again!”

-         

-        Well it’s definitely good to see you back Raven, don’t leave it another two years for the next time okay?

-        I’m sure it won’t be, and if it is, it’ll be because we’re back to touring non-stop again [laughs]
